  1. Hello question for you;

I have 3 external Seagate drives: 10TB, 8TB, and their 2TB external drive. I had the 8TB and the 2TB for
2 years now without issue, but had to replace the 10TB within only a years time of initial purchase due
to drive eventually malfunctioning. It did give warning sounds before it went however.

I store a lot of important data on each of the drives, but was looking to purchase the 18TB G-Technology
drive as an all in one back up of the other drives. My concern is (the longevity of the drive). I know all of them
eventually fail, but I was looking for something that would last at least 6-10 years if possible. When I'm not
using the Seagate drives they are powered off. I would say I back up files at least twice a week; usually smaller
files or a video or two here and there, but the drive is not on 24/7. My Seagate drives are also quiet as they sit front
    and center on my desk.

With all that being said, do you think this G-Technology drive is worth the investment or a RAID setup would be better (Positives Negatives)?

  2. Two questions:

    1) Activity light?

I saw a video where they showed the "G", on the front panel, light up. But that was all they covered in that video with regards to the light. So it means that it lights up when there is power.

But does it blink when there is activity?

My LaCie drives blink when there is activity, and that it important to me. I would order another one. But those drives are hard to find, in the larger capacities. So I am seeking an alternative.

The G-Technology drives, although somewhat scarce, are still available, and reasonably priced. But I need to know about the light.

    2) I read reviews were some people complained about the drive being noisy. Others have said that it is quiet. So I do not know if it is a matter of who deems what to be noisy, and who does not. Or, is it a matter of quality control, where Western Digital (they make the drives) allows for a certain level of noise, and some unlucky customers end up with them?

    Is yours noisy?

    Thank you.

  3. I’m a white man. Just thought I would comment on your really good video. Just trying to bring some diversity to the comment section… Seriously trying to decide between this and the G-Raid. Do you edit from the G-Drive or only use it for backup? Also I believe it’s preformatted for Mac. Do you also back that drive up, if so, how?

  4. I bought one of these on sale for $180 a fe months back but didn’t know how good it was until I watched this. It works good I edit my videos in fcp straight off of it. A little slower then using my MacBook ssd but it gets the job done.

  5. I bought two 10 tb drives last december. After 3 months of slight use both of them had major data corruption. Most of the data was gone. G-Technology or now Western Digital replaced both drives this March. Three months later another data corruption of both drives. If you have these back them up often.

  6. Thank you so much for sharing this video. I’ve been struggling with keeping up with my 4K video footage for my channel. I’m so sick of running out of storage when I’m editing in FCPX!
